Guobiao standards GB/T 11718-2021 for Medium Density Fiberboard and GB/T 20241-2021 for Laminated Veneer Lumber will be implemented on June 1, 2022.
GB/T 11718-2021 “Medium Density Fiberboard” and GB/T 20241-2021 “Laminated Veneer Lumber” respectively stipulate the terms, definitions, classifications, requirements, tests methods, and inspections of MDF board and LVL lumber, rules and signs, packaging, transportation, and storage, etc.
GB/T 11718-2021 and GB/T 20241-2021 are revised standards of GB/T 11718-2009 and GB/T GB/T 20241 -2006.
MDF
Medium-density fiberboard is one of the most important fibreboard in China. The output of MDF accounts for more than 80% of the country’s total fiberboard output. In 2020, China’s MDF production was approximately 53.47 million cubic meters.
Since the publication of GB/T 11718-2009 “Medium Density Fiberboard” in 2009, it has played an important role in regulating MDF production, improving the quality of MDF products, and promoting technological progress in the industry.
In order to promote the high-quality development of the medium-density fiberboard industry, when the GB/T 11718-2021 standard was revised, part of the international standard for medium-density fiberboard was adopted, and some technical content of the standard was carried out based on the current development status of China’s medium-density fiberboard industry and product quality.
LVL
Laminated veneer lumber is an important structural material, which is widely used in wooden construction I-beams and wooden joists, wooden door frames, and furniture materials.
Since the publication of GB/T 20241-2006 “Laminated Veneer Lumber” in 2006, the standard has played an important role in regulating the production of LVL, improving product quality, and promoting the development of the wood structure and packaging industry.
When the GB/T 20241-2021 standard was revised, the relevant standards of Japan and the European Union were fully referenced, and the relevant ISO standards were adopted in combination with the development status of China’s laminated veneer lumber industry and products. Some technical contents of the standard were importantly revised.
Medium-density fiberboard and laminated veneer lumber are important wood-based panels and engineered wood products in China. These two standards are issued and implemented for regulating the production and trade of related products.
