Birch plywood is mainly sourced from birch wood. This kind of wood is widely distributed in temperate and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere, such as the forests in Europe and northern Asia. There are abundant birch resources. High-quality birch logs are carefully selected and go through multiple processes to produce birch plywood. These logs are harvested under sustainable forestry management to ensure ecological balance while continuously supplying high-quality raw materials for us.

 

II. Types
In terms of structure, the commonly seen multi-layer birch plywood is usually composed of an odd number of veneer layers glued together, generally ranging from 3 to 13 layers. Different layer numbers meet different strength requirements. Classified by surface treatment, there are un-sanded, single-sided sanded, and double-sided sanded ones, satisfying diverse processing needs. There is also special waterproof birch plywood. Through special treatment processes, it can maintain stable performance in humid environments and is suitable for spaces like kitchens and bathrooms.

 

III. Grades
Birch plywood on the market can be roughly divided into three grades. Firstly, the economical grade may have some minor flaws in appearance, but it doesn't affect basic use. It is mostly used in temporary constructions and packaging where the appearance requirement is not high. Secondly, the standard grade has relatively regular wood grain, firm gluing, and stable physical properties. It is a common choice for furniture manufacturing and interior decoration. Thirdly, the high-end grade is made of carefully selected high-quality birch veneers, without knots, and with uniform color. It has excellent strength and aesthetics and is often used in the production of high-end furniture and musical instruments.

 

IV. Production Process
Producing birch plywood is a meticulous job. The first step is log peeling. The birch log is fixed on a peeling machine and peeled into thin wood veneers one by one, just like sharpening a pencil, with the thickness precisely controlled. Then comes veneer drying to remove moisture and prevent mildew and deformation. Generally, hot air drying or vacuum drying technologies are adopted. After drying, the veneers enter the gluing stage. Environmentally friendly and strong adhesives are selected and evenly applied to ensure gluing strength. Then, the veneers are assembled according to the predetermined structure. Multiple layers of veneers are arranged crosswise to offset the internal stress of the wood. Finally, through hot pressing and curing, under high temperature and pressure, the adhesive solidifies rapidly and the panel is formed. After sanding, cutting and other processes, a piece of birch plywood is completed.

 

V. Performance
Birch plywood has many outstanding performances. In terms of strength, thanks to its multi-layer structure and the material characteristics of birch itself, it has relatively high bending and compressive strength, can withstand large external forces and is not easy to break. In terms of stability, it is less affected by humidity and temperature, and the deformation range in different environments is extremely small, ensuring the flatness during long-term use. From the perspective of processing performance, it is easy to cut, drill and carve, facilitating carpenters to create various shapes. Moreover, the surface of birch plywood is relatively smooth, and the coating adhesion is strong. Whether it is paint or water-based coatings, it can present a good decorative effect.

 

VI. Uses
Due to its excellent performance, it has extremely wide uses. In the home furnishing field, from TV cabinets and coffee tables in the living room to wardrobes and bed boards in the bedroom, birch plywood can handle them all, creating a warm and comfortable living space. In architectural decoration, it can be used for the decorative modeling of walls and ceilings, with good sound insulation and heat insulation effects. Industrially, it is used to package valuable instruments and equipment, providing solid protection. In the manufacturing of automotive interiors, it is also often used to make interior panels, taking into account both aesthetics and durability. Even in the field of artistic creation, such as sculpture and model building, birch plywood is also a favorite material for artists, helping to bring inspiration to life.
