Structure
1. Plywood is made by bonding thin wood veneers together with their grain directions alternating perpendicularly (cross-graining) between layers.
2. An odd number of layers (e.g., 3, 5, 7) ensures a balanced structure around the core, preventing warping.
3. High-quality face veneers form the outer surfaces, while inner core veneers can be of lower grade, all held together by strong adhesives.
4. The assembled layers undergo pressing under heat and high pressure to cure the adhesive and create a solid bond.
5. This cross-laminated construction gives plywood exceptional strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to splitting compared to solid wood.
